For over 50 years, this premiere electrical contractor has provided construction services to the commercial, municipal, light industrial and institutional market sectors. The company has successfully completed a diverse range of projects throughout Canada including office towers, shopping centres, hotels, educational institutions and hospital complexes. Their experienced team plans, manages and constructs projects of all sizes using highly automated fabrication and construction practices with advanced technical, reporting & communication systems.

Reporting to the Vice President Operations, General Manager will be the leader for the Alberta operations and responsible for planning and directing all activities including financial performance, within the region. This position will be accountable for establishing and maintaining a team to operate in the respective Calgary area.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

-Operations Management

-Leads and monitors operational activities, including resource allocation, budget and schedule management, subcontractor management, procurement and contract negotiations; directs the production process

-Interacts with consultants/contractors/partners; inspects and monitors contractual work to ensure compliance with plans, specifications

-Ensures safety and quality assurance programs are followed

-Ensures compliance with corporate policies, industry best practices, and municipal, provincial, and federal standards

-Works with the management team to coordinate business development activity and prioritize future projects

-Financial/ Risk Management

-Establishes operating budget and provides fiscal direction to the business unit

-Ensures timely and accurate invoicing of completed work

-Tracks costs and ensures accurate accounting of project and overhead expenses

-Audits progress of on-going projects. Identifies risks and keeps executive management team appraised of status

-Strategy

-Works with the CEO to identify new market opportunities

-Develop, implement, and maintain short, medium and long-range operational plans, including budget documents, estimates, and project proposals

-Human Resource Management

-Supports electrical personnel

-Mentors team to develop individual skill sets

-Recommends personnel actions such as hiring, promotions, disciplinary actions, merit increases

-Motivates employees to achieve peak productivity and performance

-Stakeholder Relations

-Maintains and develops relationships with Clients

-Maintains and develops relationships with Subcontractors and business partners

-Maintains and develops relationships with Unions

QUALIFICATIONS:

-Demonstrated track record of leadership and senior level management capabilities;

-A minimum of 15+ years of experience in the construction industry, and at least 7+ years of experience in a senior management capacity.

-Strong communication and team building skills;

-Ability to set strategic direction, creative thinking (thinking outside the box), facilitate diverse teams and capitalize on business opportunities;

-Track record of developing and expanding market share in a new geographic territory.

-Conversant with estimating, budgeting and scheduling of industrial construction projects

-P&L Experience, accustomed to reviewing / interpreting financial reports

-Organized team leader; analytical problem-solver, results oriented, strong verbal and written communication skills

-Proficient with MS Office, estimating, and project management software
