Harbinger Network is seeking an experienced Construction Safety Coordinator to join the team of a successful heavy civil construction company. The Construction Safety Coordinator plays an important role in ensuring the overall safety for both field workers and office staff. They will be working alongside supervisors, management and workers to educate, coordinate, and resolve any safety-related matters. We are looking for someone who is self-motivated, has strong attention to detail, and has a working knowledge of the Ontario Health and Safety Act and Regulations to help further develop the company Health and Safety Program. The ideal candidate must have heavy civil construction/ tunnel project experience. This is a temporary to permanent role for the right candidate.


Location: Toronto, ON
Terms of Employment: Temporary, Contract
Compensation: $38.46-$46.15 an hour

Requirements:

Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Health and Safety, or related field or 8 years of equivalent construction safety work experience.
Minimum of 2-5 years related safety supervision experience on heavy civil construction projects (TBM tunnel project experience is preferred)
NCSO certificate will be considered an asset
Must have the following certifications: OHSA, Working at Heights (WAH), First Aid
Strong knowledge of health and safety legislation, the Occupational Health and Safety Act
Must have Valid G license and clean driving record
Excellent communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills; able to work collaboratively and respectfully with others.
High level of integrity and work ethic.
Ability to work in a team environment or to work independently with strong self-management.
Well organized with the ability to prioritize workloads and meet deadlines; allowing for effective and efficient multi-tasking in a demanding work environment.
Ability to think critically and problem solve, and good judgment in making decisions.
Ability to think and act quickly when workplace incidents or issues arise.
Ability to comfortably speak to, and make presentations for, individuals or groups of employees.
Ability to interpret, develop, and implement health and safety policies and procedures.


Responsibilities:

Completing daily health and safety documentation review and sign off.
Reviewing all training records to ensure compliance with applicable regulations and standards.
Assisting in the startup of the projects with respect to safety including compiling safety binders and site-specific safety material.
Coordinating 3rd party safety training as necessary.
Enforcing all established health and safety regulations and safe work practices in accordance with company policy.

Conducting ongoing, and new employee and subcontractor safety orientations
Working closely with Human Resources on safety-related concerns.
Maintaining statistics and records and monitoring accident/incident frequencies and
safety violations; assisting in investigations and completing related documentation…
Facilitating the Return to Work/ Work Reintegration program.
Updating Health and Safety communication boards.
Visiting construction sites to ensure that H&S procedures are being implemented by Site Supervisors and followed by all workers.
Conducting field level safety meetings, toolbox talks, and health and safety informational awareness.
Preparing monthly safety analytics.
Working with management to develop and execute H&S Action Plan/Goals.
Involvement in wellness and rewards/recognition programs.
Participating in or leading investigations to determine root cause and develop corrective actions; prepare incident reports.
Working with the Ministry of Labour when necessary.
Other duties as required
